I’ve heard that the Toronto Beaches Jazz Festival Run is getting a serious and welcome ‘make-over’ for Summer 2016. I suspect that most runners–including myself–will be very happy to see a serious race back in the schedule this July 24.
I did this run last year when it was known as the Beaches Jazz Tune up Run. It was fun, casual, and had a nice ‘community’ feel to it: it was a run…not a race. This year looks like it will be the best of both. There will still be a 5K and 10K Run and Walk and the ‘old’ 20K is now a full-fledged Half-Marathon Race. For the first time, events will be chip-timed…and that’s just great!
The flat course is picturesque and runners start on the Boardwalk at Kew Beach Park and run east along the Martin Goodman Trail. It begins at 7:15am which is just a gorgeous time of the early morning in the Summer to run along the lakefront when it’s still cool. The ‘out-and-back’ route returns runners and walkers to Queen Street East for post-race treats; Overall, Masters and Age Group Award Ceremonies; and a BBQ. After that, there’s still lots of time to hang out in the neighbourhood for the rest of the morning.
Rumour has it that there’s really great swag this year as well…and…registration prices are still low. It doesn’t get any better than that!
I think this has all the makings of a premier Summer race here in Toronto…and I can’t wait.
